København

Made it!  Finally!
We were planing to go to Copenhagen early this year but couldn't get the dates to work with other things.  Finally we found a date that worked and off we went.  We had to plan the hotel and the flights then work on the transfers but it wasn't too difficult.  We're getting to be very good at finding flights that work for us and hotels that are suggested on a few, trusted web sites.  Our trip began at 3:45am!

We booked our flight from Stansted which is north east of London and requires us to get to Liverpool Train Station, that's a bus ride away but since we were up so early we hired a car to get us there and not have to worry about bus schedules.  That poor driver having to get up that early.  Once at Liverpool Station we noticed the place was still locked up, we were there early.  The schedule with the trains and the opening of the station is a little off but we didn't have to rush.  Waited around the station for a bit then boarded for the ride out we weren't alone....lots of people flying out early.  Arriving at Stansted it's a mad dash out of the train and up the stairs to the departures hall.  Finding out which line to stand in for Easy Jet or any airline there is always a kind of scavenger hunt, we're still learning how to understand the process there.  We found a very long line that worried Kevin but we still had 2 hours before boarding.  We get through it all and realized that we had already checked in online and could have avoided the line and gone directly to bag-drop-off.....doh!  No problem.  Security there is quick and so much easier than what it was in the States.  We get through that and look for a coffee, it's now about 6:30am and I haven't had any yet.  By the time we're done waiting for our coffee and pastries it was time for the mad dash to the boarding gate.

We're off!

Copenhagen is very much like Stockholm to me, classic Scandinavian architecture and the water not far.

Of course we had to find which pastry shop had the best and we did each day and more than once a day.

It's very expensive there, due to how much the VAT(Value Added Tax) on pretty much anything you buy but it all goes back into the city/country.  It's clean...very clean.  We did notice on Saturday morning that the locals had partied very hard the night before and the cleaning crew hadn't been out yet.

We enjoyed some wonderful beer, wonderful Danish foods, one of the most expensive hotdogs ever and some really beautiful gardens and buildings.
We weren't exactly sure what the hotdog was made of, this one guy next to the cart had just finished eating and said "Get the daily special, it's goat meat."  We figured it should be good, I've eaten lots of lamb since living here in the UK.  The reddish topping is pickled rose petals!  There's some kind of mayo/relish and some tiny fired onions on top.  It was actually one of the best hotdogs I've ever eaten from a street vendor!
One of our highlights was going to Tivoli.  We're both suckers for amusement parks and why not go to one of the oldest in the world.  It's small but well thought out and you can see where Disney got some ideas.

Visiting Carlsberg Brewer was also on Kevin's agenda.  I didn't think I needed to 'inside' the place so I sat in the visitors entrance and waited.  We had a beer outside later, together before we walked out to the old main entrance to see the huge elephant sculptures.

We walked over to Christian Berg for 2 things....well 3 if you count the danish stop on the way.  The Church of our Savior is pretty plan, as is much of the churches in Copenhagen but it's the steeple you want to see and climb.  Sadly I had a little problem with heights so I didn't go all the way up to the very top.  Afterwards we walked to the hippie Freetown Christiana...sections of it you can't take your camera out because of the paraphernalia that's being sold....yes, pot and hash is EVERYWHERE!  We found it strange that an organized walk-a-thon went through this area but then we're the prudish Americans who don't go nude in co-ed saunas too.

After going to 2 different but similar towns in Scandinavia we've decided that we don't need to go up there again.  I'm glad we went, it's another stamp on the passport but then it's much more too.  I got to eat smoked herring!
